The KVB - Out Of Body

The KVB is a British duo consistig of Nicholas Wood and Kat Day. They formed in 2010 and has been putting out a steady bunch of releases ever since, and has managed to gather a bit of a following among everything from psych freaks to minimal electronics fanatics.

'Out of Body' is a mini album which seems like a good idea. There's not a lot of variation on this release, which tends to be a problem the band has dealt with on most of their albums. It's to their luck that it doesn't come of as too repetitive due to the fact that there's only six songs on this album. It's a bit strange though, that they do it in this manner, as the band has shown a big variation of genres and styles on the different releases, being it the noisy shoegaze on 'Minus One' or perhaps the minimalistic synth on 'Always Then'.

This release contains slow and atmospheric shoegaze tunes with lots of synth, and seems like a perfect way to combine that different sounds you can find on their previous records. 'All Around You' is a pretty good example of the sound; You'll get the lazy but atmospheric shoegaze/dream pop but it all gets spiced up by a great synth melody. It somehow reminds me of what The Cure would do if they went in a somewhat similar direction. There's definitely some of the some pop sensibility going on here. Overall this comes off as one of the best KVB releases to date and is recommend for fans of atmospheric shoegaze, post-punk, psych and synth.

Take a listen on their Bandcamp.
