M!R!M - Heaven

Initially started as a duo, M!R!M is now the solo project of Jack Milwaukee, an Italian living in London. 2013 saw the release of his debut album 'Heaven', which comes of a superb fusion of cold synth punk and atmospheric shoegaze.

The songs tend to follow the same formula with atmospheric synths and effect-driven guitars. In fact there's such a heavy use of effects that it's sometimes almost impossible to tell the different instruments apart. It creates a great eerie soundtrack-like feel, and it comes off as a mixture between the sci-fi soundtracks of the eighties and the noise pop of My Bloody Valentine. The album is packed with good melodies and especially 'Dead Inside' and 'Liebe Machen' showcases some great melodies. My favourite track is 'Lizzards', which features the vocals of Natalie Bruno. The song has a cool mechanic drum and the singing gives it some kind of pop sensibility that gives this release a bit of diversity.
