California is notorious for having brought us some of the best electronic punk that's ever been made. Just think of classic acts such as The Screamers, Nervous Gender and The Units, or more recent bands like Sixteens and The Vanishing. High-Functioning Flesh is taking that legacy and mixing it with the European electronic body music-tradition of bands such as Cabaret Voltaire and Nitzer Ebb, and the result is impressive. Most of the songs are delivered with great intensity and attitude, and each track contains some pretty slick synth sounds. A Unity of Miseries - A Misery of Unities is the debut album of this duo and they have plenty of reasons to be satisfied with it, as it is one of the best EBM albums releassed in this millenium. This will probably appeal the most to fans of the classic EBM sound, but open-minded punk enthusiasts should also give this a go.
